Care for You and Move with Intention: Easy Daily Habits for Men

Self-care often gets labelled as something extra, or something that isn’t really “for men.” But looking after your body, your skin and your fitness isn’t about vanity. It’s about feeling good, having energy, and being able to keep up with the life you want to live.

This November, as the world focuses on men’s health, we’re sharing simple habits that help you care for yourself and move with intention, without complicated routines or hours at the gym.

What self-care really means

Self-care is anything you do regularly to look after your physical and mental wellbeing. For men, it can be as simple as:

  • Taking five minutes in the morning for a proper grooming routine
  • Protecting your skin from the sun
  • Drinking enough water
  • Moving your body every day
  • Making time for something you enjoy

It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing a few small things consistently.

Part 1: Care for You

A simple daily grooming routine

You don’t need a shelf full of products. A basic routine takes less than five minutes:

  1. Cleanse. Wash your face morning and night with a gentle cleanser. Regular soap can dry out your skin.
  2. Moisturise. A light moisturiser keeps skin comfortable, especially in air-conditioned rooms.
  3. Protect. Use sunscreen every morning. In the GCC sun, this is one of the best things you can do for your skin.
  4. Care for your beard. If you have one, wash it, condition it and use beard oil to keep it soft.
  5. Don’t forget the basics. Lip balm, a good deodorant and clean, trimmed nails.

Skin tips for men

  • Shave after a warm shower when hair is softer, and use a clean, sharp razor.
  • Shave in the direction of hair growth to reduce irritation.
  • Use an aftershave balm rather than a harsh alcohol-based one.
  • Check your skin. If you notice a new mole, or a spot that changes shape, size or colour, show it to a doctor.
  • Choose clean ingredients where you can, with fewer harsh chemicals.

Self-care beyond the mirror

Caring for yourself also means looking after your mind and your day-to-day wellbeing.

  • Stay hydrated. Keep a reusable water bottle with you throughout the day.
  • Eat to fuel yourself. Build meals around vegetables, protein and whole grains.
  • Take time for hobbies. Reading, cooking, sport or anything that helps you switch off.
  • Stay connected. Spend time with the people who make you feel good.
  • Check in with yourself. Notice how you’re feeling, and talk to someone if something feels off.

Part 2: Move with Intention

Why movement matters

Regular movement is one of the best things you can do for your health. It helps:

  • Strengthen your heart and muscles
  • Boost energy and mood
  • Reduce stress
  • Improve sleep
  • Keep joints and back healthy

Moving with intention means choosing activity that feels good and fits your life, rather than forcing yourself into something you’ll quit after two weeks.

How much movement do you need?

A good general goal for most adults is:

  • At least 150 minutes a week of moderate activity, like brisk walking. That’s around 30 minutes, five days a week.
  • Strength training twice a week, using weights, resistance bands or your own body weight.
  • Less sitting. Get up and move for a few minutes every hour.

If you’re just starting out, or have any health concerns, speak to your doctor first.

Easy ways to move more every day

  • Walk after meals. Even 10 to 15 minutes helps.
  • Take the stairs instead of the lift.
  • Stretch in the morning. Five minutes to loosen your neck, back and hips.
  • Train at home. Push-ups, squats, lunges and planks need no equipment.
  • Use resistance bands or a yoga mat for quick home workouts.
  • Make it social. Play padel, football or go for a walk with a friend.
  • Exercise when it’s cooler. Early mornings and evenings are best in the warmer months.

A simple 15-minute home workout

No gym? No problem. Try this two or three times a week:

  1. Warm up (3 minutes): March on the spot, arm circles, gentle stretches.
  2. Squats: 3 rounds of 12.
  3. Push-ups: 3 rounds of 8 to 10 (on your knees is fine).
  4. Lunges: 3 rounds of 10 per leg.
  5. Plank: 3 rounds of 20 to 30 seconds.
  6. Cool down (2 minutes): Stretch your legs, back and shoulders.

Recovery is part of the plan

Moving with intention also means knowing when to rest.

  • Take rest days to let your muscles recover.
  • Stretch or use a foam roller to ease tightness.
  • Sleep well. Your body repairs and builds strength while you sleep.
  • Listen to your body. Pain is a signal to stop, not push through.

Start this week

Pick one habit from each part:

  • One self-care habit: sunscreen every morning, a simple skincare routine or more water
  • One movement habit: a daily walk, a home workout or a morning stretch

Stick with them for a month. Then add one more.
